All bands need that, especially new bands. It shows them they’re serious about what they’re doing.  It’s as simple as making a WordPress site, combining plug-ins with your social network activities and design something that looks good. It’s beyond me why people would ask more than 200 euros to do this. In fact, I’d do it for 150 euros. Yes, bands, I will design / make your band website for 150 euros. I’ll set it up, then you fill it by doing your social media thing and blogging some new things and tour dates every now and then. I’ll do it in two days. And I’ll do the first one free. Tiny Wings is an addictive little game for your iPhone. The premise is simple: you’re a fat bird with tiny wings and all you want to do is fly. By pressing the iOS device touchscreen the bird makes itself heavy and it goes down. Lift your finger and the bird flaps it wings. When you do this at the right moment, using the many hills in the game, you gather speed and you can attempt to fly – for a few seconds. This continues until the night catches up with you. Then your bird falls asleep instantly.

The gameplay is very simple, almost too simple. Thankfully their are achievements that you need to unlock to get higher scores. These achievement vary from getting as far in the game as possible before and getting in the clouds a certain number of times to playing the game upside down. Some of these achievements are frustatingly hard. Practise makes perfect in this case, but it gets quite annoying that you can’t even make one mistake: if you do, your bird usually slows down a lot… Not cool. Not cool at all.

Still, I keep on returning to this game. These last two weeks, Tiny Wings has been a welcome addition to any boring moment. Although I’ve felt quite frustrated with the game as well . I love the colours and graphics: not state of the art, but almost a work of art… The mood is very relaxed and the sound of the bird flying to next island “Yahoooooooo!” is just right. This bird has become my friend. It’s a bird with ambition. I’m helping it… Not exactly a golden key goal, but it’s a good enough excuse for me to keep on playing…

But it’s something else as well… After a slow January it finally seems like the year 2011 has started properly. Plans are hatched, things are happening and my golden key scheme is paying off. I’ve set some goals in my last post of 2010. And to remind myself of them, I’m wearing a golden key around my neck. I’m wearing it until I feel like my life is evolving in the right manner. I don’t particularly like wearing a golden key around my neck, especially not for this reason. It makes me feel like I”m full of crap, pretentious. But wearing this golden key has become easier over the past month. It’s now a reminder that I’m taking control. I’ve started my driving lessons, I’m moving to a new place and I’m doing things I want. I’m not there yet, so the golden key stays on for now… But I’m going in the right direction.

In my real life I’m an editor at a Dutch computer magazine, which is a nice job. And I don’t suck at English. But adding these two together doesn’t make me the obvious choice becoming a (web) editor in London. So unless someone’s going to literally give me the job because they think I’m nice and realise what I’m capable of once I get going, I need more writing experience for English blogs, magazines, websites. So that’s my mission for the next few months: going freelance in English. If I can gather some extra English writing experience in the next few months, then it’ll be easier to get going.
